The president-elect of the prestigious debating society has been removed from his position after losing a no-confidence vote that came after his controversial social media posts about Charlie Kirk.

The motion against the student leader achieved the required two-thirds threshold to oust him from his position, according to an statement from the organization.

Disputed Comments

The dispute erupted after the student reportedly posted messages on social media that appeared to welcome the death of the American conservative figure, who was fatally shot while speaking at a university in Utah.

According to sources, one social media message reportedly read "Charlie Kirk got shot loool" - using an elongated version of the phrase 'lol'.

The student leader is also said to have written in a WhatsApp chat with other members appearing to express approval of the event.

Election Results

The vote of confidence was conducted over the recent days, with outcomes revealed on Tuesday.

Official notices showed that 1,228 ballots were cast supporting no confidence, while just over five hundred were opposed the motion.

The notice stated that the future president was considered to have stepped down in following the society's regulations.

Election Controversies

Voting operations were informally suspended early on the previous day after the returning officer was allegedly subjected to "interference, threats, and inappropriate behavior" from several representatives.

In a statement, the student claimed that the count had been halted because electoral officials believed "no legitimate and true result could be reached as a result of procedural failures".

His response categorically refuted that any representative appointed by George had participated in threatening or obstructive conduct.

Continuing Controversy

The president-elect maintained that extremely serious issues had been submitted to the governing body and that he remained president-elect.

His statement added that George was "grateful and honored to have the support of well in excess of a majority of students at Oxford" who supported a "secure voting process and resist attempts to subvert democracy".

Opponents have said that any decision to keep him would "demonstrate internationally that the Oxford Union has prioritized politics over principles".

External Responses

On Friday, Kirk's former chief of staff presented an open letter to the society on The Charlie Kirk Show broadcast.

The message criticized the society of becoming a place where "student leaders publicly celebrate the assassination of a ideological rival".

The communication indicated that if the student were to keep his position, Kirk's allies would "personally contact every American political speaker who has ever graced the union's chamber and urge them never again to lend their name".

The society had previously condemned Mr Abaraonye's remarks after Kirk's death and confirmed that complaints submitted about him had been forwarded for disciplinary proceedings.

The president-elect had been one of several students to discuss with the activist at the union in spring.
