19 of the Russian's 21 titles have been won on hard surfaces

A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his maiden trophy for over two years with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the competition final.

The athlete, a former world number one, has experienced a challenging period, achieving just one win at the Grand Slams and suffering a difficult moment at the US Open.

Medvedev's varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his service game in especial - resulted in him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with long-time trainer Cervara.

Now collaborating with Johansson and Goetzke, he has consistently advanced in the past month - peaking in a tightly fought three-set win over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's first championship after the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hardcourt after March of that year.

Victory also means he has secured 21 titles at twenty-one distinct events.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a tournament with my two daughters simultaneously, so to win a trophy is especially meaningful," stated ranked player the champion.

"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter her name was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had lost his last six championship matches, including in that event previously this season.

Medvedev's defensive approach and regular reactions on court had caused commentators to doubt if his ability to perform at the elite level was over.

Yet the player has altered his approach in recent weeks, attempting to approach the net and play positively, supported by an better serving game.

Medvedev recovered from a break down in the initial set against the difficult Moutet, winning 4 of the final five points to take the lead.

The pair swapped service breaks in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his first professional victory, seized the initiative to force a final set.

He saved 4 initial break points in a competitive final set before the champion won the break to that score to secure the win.

Appropriately, the winner clinched victory with a shot at the front of the court, with the Frenchman unable to manage a volley after a lengthy match.
